On Being

by Rev. Amari Magdalena

How can we be amidst so much splendor, yet live our lives by illusionary time? We’ve conquered earth and space and attempted to put it them a box in spite of their circular forms. In doing so, we also limited that part of our being that is limitless. We captured our essence and then attempted to contain it.

Though ancient people did not have all of the luxuries that we’ve come to classify as needs, they had something we do not. They lived in the splendor of the seasons and the movements of the sun and moon. They were exposed to the elements and all of the kingdoms of animal, plant, mineral, and human. The richness of their lives is to be held in awe because they learned to live in harmony.

Our lives are not limitless, for most people because thinking moved away from heart and found shelter in the brain. When that occurred, magic and the miraculous diminished and in some cases died. Further beyond that occurrence we moved to technology and artificial intelligence.  We’ve transformed into a much more robotic state.  We’ve lost human-being and worshiped human-doing.

Our precious allotment on this earth being mechanized, like a thief in the night, has stolen our innate divine creation.  Our lives which may have been showered with splendor have devolved to states of doing, eschewing being. Many people are exhausted. Many are bone tired. Too many are on drugs for depression. Some are choosing to check out believing that anywhere is better than here.

The governing agencies of our lives are moving more and more into dysfunction, corruption, and maladaptation to systems that no longer support us. Many are living lives of quiet desperation. Others have chosen one escape or another as coping strategies. A precious few are attempting to return to natural states of being. Some are promising other world transportation to the unknown or heavenly salvation. While too many feel like they are on an endless merry-go-round spinning so fast they cannot jump off.

Yet each of us does have a choice. We can choose to live outside the norm and disconnect from the matrix. Prices are extracted for such a choice, that may be true. Yet more people making that choice and clearly demonstrating the simple state of being, may override for others the reason to stay. Demonstration has always beaten explanation. A simple ‘show me’ may trump all the words in the world.

Simplicity in some realms is catching hold. Markus Aurelius’ philosophy of Stoicism is being embraced. Others are choosing to diminish consumerism. Some are seeking the peace of a cabin in the woods like Thoreau and being off the grid. Many are saying enough! Why build monstrous concrete buildings and other objects that block the light. An awakening is happening for many who have chosen to release attachment to organized religions and favor embracing being spiritual. Catch that? BEING spiritual.

As Winter is this day upon us and the natural marker of earth experience, Winter Solstice, nee Yule, if being celebrated, we are invited to consider and reconsider our paths. The darkest day invites us to go into that cave center of the brain in silence and awe and embrace the unknown. It further invites us to be silent, stop the mitote in our heads that clouds our ability to hear inner wisdom.

Many, many years ago, I entered an unmarked cave with a spelunker. As we wandered into the depths of the cave with helmets and light, we found a natural place to sit down. We sat in silence for a time. And, then, magically, I experienced a form of light in the darkness. It affirmed my belief of the yin/yang of our earthly experiences and the Tao of opposites. I felt surrounded by that mystical light and warmth.

I believe, at this time on Earth and the Winter Solstice, that it is most beneficial to pursue this last night of darkness, allowing our inner wisdom to lead us back to being. Let the voice of higher mind, through our heart center, guide us to restoration of what is most natural and unification of all beings. Let us each be the peace we desire and open our hearts to new possibilities of creation.

Embrace this night of darkness, so that tomorrow you step into the Light of your true being. Let’s us just BE!
